Icon with drop down.

My company is creating a new IEAK but how do we create the icon like
the mail icon that has a drop down. I have searched endlessly and
finally resorted to posting my own question.
Does anyone know?

I've never done it, but I would consider adding a context menu to the icon,
and showing the menu when the user clicked the _left_ button (handling the
click events appropriately). The context menu can be positioned so that it
always appears in the same place, like what we would expect from a regular
menu.
